The Question Behind Historacle

I’ve loved history for as long as I can remember. Like a lot of people, I was drawn in by the events. The wars. The turning points. The moments that changed the world.

But as I got older, I found myself becoming less interested in what happened and more interested in why it happened.

Why did people make the decisions they did? What kind of world were they living in? What did they know at the time? What the hell were they thinking? And if I’d lived the same life they did, with the same experiences and the same information… would I have made the same choices? Those are the questions I can’t stop asking.

I think one of the biggest mistakes we make is looking at history from the finish line instead of the starting line.

I’ve found that history makes a lot more sense when we stop looking at it from the finish line and start walking beside the people who had no idea how their story would end. That’s where understanding begins.

That’s why I started Historacle.

I’m not trying to be the history guy. I’m someone who loves telling great stories from history, asking questions people may never have thought to ask, and exploring why those questions will always matter.

Every story starts with a question. Sometimes the answer surprises me. Sometimes it challenges what I thought I knew. Sometimes I end up changing my own mind. Those are usually the stories I enjoy the most.

I’m not interested in judging the people who came before us. I’m interested in understanding them. Because the more I study history, the more I realize it isn’t just about the past. It’s one of the best ways I’ve found to understand people… our fears, our hopes, our ambitions, our loyalties, and the choices we make when life gets complicated.

History is always teaching us and I think our job is to keep asking better questions because better questions lead to a better understanding of people.

I don’t expect you to agree with every opinion I have or every conclusion I reach.

I just hope you’ll bring your curiosity.

Because every story I tell comes back to one question:
